Le Monastère – Sanctuaire
Organize your next event in a unique venue in the heart of downtown: a splendid neo-Gothic church built in 1864. The Sanctuary is the oldest part of the St. Jax Center, and it's also the second oldest structure on Sainte-Catherine Street. It was constructed when the neighborhood was still mainly farmland outside the city limits of Montreal, at the dawn of a new era that would see St. Jax become the heart of a district now known as the Golden Square Mile.
The high wooden ceilings of the sanctuary are our greatest asset and would likely be nearly impossible to replicate today. The style is known as "Arts and Crafts," which was a bold new look at the time, reflecting the vibrancy of the new neighborhood. The evolution of downtown is literally written into the walls of the hall, through the offered plaques and windows, each telling a story, along with numerous reminders of the community's military affiliations.
In addition to providing a completely unique and spectacular atmosphere, the space is perfectly suited for circus performances, including aerial acts, with the possibility of a central stage. With its 6,000 square feet, high wooden ceilings, and stained glass windows, The Sanctuary adapts to all your needs: filming, concerts, shows, happy hours, and more.
Many amenities are available on-site: lighting, sound, furniture, live recording, and more. Technical specifications are available upon request.
Other services available upon request: circus performances, bar and beverage service, cloakroom, catering, live music, DJ, VJ, photographer, and more.
