Le Salon Richmond 1861

  • Capacity: 1200

Built in 1861 by the Sulpicians, with the help of local volunteers, for the community of Little Burgundy, St-Joseph Church was a place of gathering, celebration and support. Over time the church struggled economically and the community was challenged to save this magnificent building before losing an important part of local history. Salon 1861 was created with the aim of providing a collective space and breaking down islands of isolation between sectors of our society. Universities, entrepreneurs, local citizens, community organizations and private companies will work side by side to redefine how we work, live and collaborate. Salon 1861 attempts to bring together diverse groups to redefine social roles, in a non-traditional way, creating a core of entrepreneurship – reinventing the role of business. In times of funding austerity and growing economic division, the jewel that is this historic building will regain its original intent to bring people together. Salon 1861 includes a full event room, a restaurant offering local products and a “coworking” space that allows businesses, community organizations and local residents to network, share resources, train their employees and create contacts. Salon 1861 also serves as an urban laboratory to conduct institutional research into green buildings and social entrepreneurship. The wide variety of actors present in Le Salon 1861 allows for a unique exchange of ideas and resources between the community, businesses and institutions. The building is also surrounded by an urban garden and holds several events, conferences and trainings for tenants and local residents. *Please note that any rental of audio-visual equipment including the sound system or decorations may incur additional costs*
